This Pub is Closed Long Term

Named after Joseph Paxton, designer of the Crystal Palace that housed the Great Exhibition in 1851, and which ended up just up the road from the pub before it burned down in the 1930s. The pub itself is something of a monolith dominating a busy junction, and overlooking the old plague pit on the other side of the road. Inside there is an open-to-view kitchen on the right, with food available lunchtimes as well as evenings. The pub stretches back a long way into a lowered area, where there are shelf dividers containing vases and the like. This in turn leads out into a garden at the back. It's bare-boarded, and furnished with mainly standard tables and chairs. Popular with families and locals. Has wheelchair access and a disabled toilet on the ground floor in the main bar.
