This Pub is Closed Long Term
Originally built in the early 20th century as the Grand Theatre, it was remodelled in the thirties as a cinema, later becoming a bingo hall, and eventually a cafe bar. However these later uses only resulted in the removal of the ground floor seating and many of the cinema features remain intact: balcony seating, projection room, stage and so on.
Despite this obvious historic interest and the lack of large venues in Banbury, planning permission has been given for partial demolition and conversion into retail units, apartments and a row of mews residences behind. However no work on this project has yet been carried out and the site is for sale.
