Traditional pub with unusual front entrance (pub is wedge shaped, with a curved roof). Guest ales are normally from micro-breweries and often local. Refurbished in July 2019, and whilst retaining its single room, has effectively a number of distinctive areas and a good rear patio area. Sky sports shown.

Historic Interest

The Greasley Castle was formerly a Hardys & Hansons tied house.

Asset of Community Value registered on the 28th June 2016 and nominated by the Nottingham Branch of CAMRA.

In 1876, the Greasley Castle was a fully licensed establishment under victualler Charles William Johnson (Post Office Directories).

Named after the remains of the nearby fortified manor house of the same name, built by Nicholas Cantalupe, who "received permission to fortify Greasley in 1341, just before the battle of Neville's Cross, and when the fear of a Scottish invasion was strong in the land. The remains of his fortification remain, but are so masked by later farm buildings that they are difficult to understand." (J. Holland Walker [1928] / www.nottshistory.org.uk).

Note that the curved frontage and conical roof are reminiscent of a medieval castle tower.

As at November 2017, the freehold for the Greasley Castle (NT442682) was held by Greene King Retailing Limited (Reg. No.5265451).
