Greyhound Hotel, Cromford

This three storey sandstone Georgian hotel is the most prominent building in Cromford market place. Built by Sir Richard Arkwright, but named for the black greyhound on the family crest of Phillip Gell it is still known as the Black Dog by some locals. The prominent Smith of Derby clock is recently restored.

"A half a million pounds-plus refurbishment of The Greyhound in Cromford is confirmed to begin this August, marking the next major step in the return of one of Derbyshire's most recognisable buildings.

The historic Market Place inn, built by Richard Arkwright in 1778, is being brought back to life through joint major investment by Admiral Taverns, the UK's leading community pub company, working closely with incoming operators Greg and Sarah Dufton.

Greg and Sarah, who live locally with their two sons, bring 30 years of combined experience across hospitality"...

"The refurbishment project is expected to take around eight weeks and will cover the pub, bar, dining spaces, kitchen, nine guest bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms, and external terrace. Customers can expect a fully-renewed Greyhound to reopen this Autumn"
