The inn as the name implies was built in 1860 on the site of an old hut to provide food drink and shelter for passing herdsmen on the adjacent drove road. Nowadays it serves the local farming community as well as walkers and tourists exploring this beautiful part of the Yorkshire dales. The small one-roomed interior has a tiny bar and in winter a roaring fire. Excellent-value home-cooked meals are available daily until 8.30pm. Severely damaged by fire and later demolished.
