Comfortable bar with an open fire, offering a high-quality rustic menu of game and other local food. Furnished with a tartan carpet and decorated with mainly sporting items and paintings, there are fishing rods, and their china fish victims, an impressive gundog statue, copper pans, several clocks and portraits of dales folk. A large photo of Basil Fawlty presides over the bar counter. There is bench seating and chairs at square wood topped tables on cast iron bases around the bar. A separate restaurant is to the side of the bar.
The Sportsman’s is located about two miles west of Pateley Bridge over a pack horse bridge and along a narrow lane, as this is in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty walkers are welcome if they remove their dirty boots before entering.
