Busy, comfortable 17th century free house in open Cotswold countryside close to Minchinhampton Common and Gatcombe Park occupying a corner plot on the intersection of Cirencester Rd and Hampton Rd. The restaurant has been extended and the whole building pleasantly refurbished.

The car park is accessible off Hampton Rd and is large and tarmacked.

Looking towards the pub entrance from the car park the function room known as "The Shed" may be seen to the left of the pub. Entering the pub you will find the toilets to your immediate left and a restaurant reception lectern to you right with the restaurant to your right behind it. This an extension to the original building it is spacious and long with a wood burning stove halfway down on the left.

Going straight on from the lectern you go through into the bar area with a small cubby to your right with a table to suit a small party and to the right the corridor to a long lounge area with wood burning stoves at each end.

An excellent base for touring the area.

Historic Interest

The Grade II Listed (Historic England list entry number 1091093) Ragged Cot became a hostelry in 1620. The first landlord became a part-time footman to bolster the takings. His wife objected to his nefarious activities and, after a row, allegedly fell down the stairs and died. Her ghost reputedly inhabits the pub.

From Stroud Merrywalks roundabouts take Bath Rd and bear left up Rodborough Hill passing the Prince Albert on your left. Follow the Rd up crossing the commons until you intersect Butterow Hill where you turn Right. Follow the road crossing the commons passing Minchinhampton on your right. The Ragged Cot may be found on the right at the intersection of Cirencester Rd and Hampton Rd
