This Pub is Temporarily Closed

APR 2025 - Expect to announce soon that they have tenants to run the pub. Room letting starting end of month with breakfast and evening meals. Aim is to stage openings, the Hub/pub mid May onto the gardens, with some meals and takeaways available too.

MAR 2025 - The buyout is done! Reopening plans as yet unknown but they are hoping to sell a couple of real ales.

DEC 2024 - The buyout team have received significant funding from the Scottish Land Fund and South of Scotland Enterprise. They hope to raise remaining funds required through a community share issue. The pub is currently open for only very limited hours (mainly on a Friday) and is not taking any bookings.

Templehall started life as part of the Temple Dairy back in 1812 and is now a small family-owned village hotel, popular with walkers on the St Cuthbert's Way. Following the closure of the smaller lower bar, the hub of the hotel is the upper Kale Lounge bar (accessed from the main road entrance), which doubles as a dining room and also in summer a tea room. Accommodation packages available for walkers.

In Aug 2024 the Morebattle Community Hub and Public House Limited group (MCHPHL) launched a campaign to purchase the freehold of the pub. In Dec 2024 they received a grant of £200,000 from the Scottish Land Fund and South of Scotland Enterprise, and they launched a community share scheme. In Mar 2025 they completed the purchase. In Apr 2025 they were preparing for tenants to reopen the pub.
