Situated in the ancient 'Grope Lane, (where on dark nights one had to grope around), in the Captain Cook area of the town, where he served his apprenticeship under shipping merchant John Walker.

The clue to this rather special micropub is in its name, and where a friendly welcome is assured from the enthusiastic and knowledgeable owner who is reputed to be the youngest licensee in the area. Uniquely named, it is worthy of a visit to Whitby alone.

Having a 'Quicky in the Quirky' is the pub's motto. However, visitors come to the town for a holiday, and once they have discoved the pub, then stay here for the week.

Opened in August 2018. Comprises a small downstairs bar with bench seating. More seating is available upstairs, together with the toilets. Dog friendly downstairs only.

Please note that the opening hours may be extended in the lead up to Christmas, while, following New Year, and the pub has been drunk dry, the owner take a well earned break until reopening in March.

Opens Weds - Sun during the summer and Thurs - Sun during the winter.

The pub is noted for serving Theakston Old Peculiar, served from wooden sherry casks, and which is available as a regular beer, while three other guest beers are served, usually featuring a lighter beer and a ruby red. Real cider is also available, as well as five keg offerings, including lagers, IPA, a cider and a stout.

An extensive range of gins and rums are also served.
