Dining pub.

A former traditional pub which reopened after a complete refurbishment in 2014 as a gastropub of the Raymond Blanc chain. Currently operating as a Heartwood Inn as part of the Brasserie Blanc group for fine dining in upmarket surroundings. Despite its popular appeal for dining with its eclectic menu, customers are still welcome for drinks only. Service is friendly and courteous.

The tastefully decorated single bar serves several well positioned tables in an open room with plenty of light from the windows plus lampshades and contemporary lighting. The smart colour scheme is apple green with the dark grey bar counter and white walls complementing the mix of wooden and flagstone flooring along with the fireplace. An enclosed area leads off from the bar with a mix of tables and chairs, the dark blue wallpaper providing a more intimate and cosy atmosphere.

The large restaurant and dining area is in the clean and bright modern extension at the back of the pub, overlooking the outside terrace with seating for al fresco dining.

The enclosed back terrace and garden is especially popular in summer with a pergola and well tended borders.

The menu can change according to the season with special events and deals. Sunday menu is served until 5 pm.

Up to three cask ales are available, along with keg beers from Camden Town and BrewDog.

Card payment ONLY, no cash accepted.

The pub's name is taken from a variety of strawberry, as displayed on the pub sign. The former rural area to the east between Orpington and Green Street Green was once renowned in the 19th C for fruit fields, including strawberries. Previously, the name inferred a famous queen with both Boadicea and Elizabeth I having being portrayed on the pub sign at various stages.

Conveniently located for Sainsbury's at the rear with its car park and access via the back gate.

Historic Interest

Dating from the latter half of the 19th C, this former beer-house was owned by the Oak Brewery in nearby Green Street Green and sold their Fox & Sons Ales. In 1909, the premises had to be sold at auction due to financial problems with the Oak Brewery and was then owned by the Dartford Brewery.
