Historic Interest
Delicensed on 10/02/11 landlady was Emma Hunter owner was Punch Taverns. The pub was listed in John Stotts 1977 Guide to Good Beer in Bolton as selling Greenall Whitley Bitter and both Light and Dark Mild (E), with music and snacks, it also sold the bottle conditioned White Shield. Opposite (old) Hospital. It made a single appearance in the 1979 Good Beer Guide, but by June 1979 Greenall Whitley changed the cask to tank beer and so it was deleted. In May 1981 it was a Greenall Whitley Tank Pub. It took until May 1994 for cask beer to return when Greenall Whitley Bitter and (new!) Original and Stones Bitter were now available. By 1999 guest beers were on the bar such as Nethergate Augustinian, Elgood Greyhound, Beartown Bruins Ruin, Everards Anniversary ale, Shepheard Neame Spitfire and Theakstons Bitter. In June 2000 they pub had been painted and now had a Bass signs instead of Greenall Whitley ones. However by September 2001 the pub was selling Greenall Whitley Bitter again and a choice of Bank Top beers. A Branch Meeting was held here on November 8th 2001. By April 2003 the beers were Holts Bitter, Boddingtons Bitter and Greenall Whitley Bitter.
