Historic Interest
The pub was listed in John Stotts 1977 Guide to Good Beer in Bolton as selling Wilsons Mild and Bitter (E), TV, Juke Box and darts. After the Leap Year meal, more drinks were had here on February 29th 1980 and it was nearer the bus station. In May 1981 this was a Wilsons pub selling Mild and Bitter (E). The pub was included in an article about Bolton town centre pubs in April 1982. A social/Committee meeting was held here on October 19th 1983, the pub now had handpumps which replaced the previous electric ones. It was visited on the St Georges day pub crawl in 1985. It was included in the selective Greater Manchester Beer Guides of 1976 and 1985. The pub was refurbished in October 1985 in what was thought to be for the first time since the 1960's. By September 1986 the pub was no longer selling Mild. The pub was included on the suggested pub crawl for the 1987 Great North Western Beer Festival. In January 1988 the beer range had expanded to inlude Websters Bitter and Choice and Ruddles County in addition to the Wilsons Bitter. Landlord Richard James was the Licensee for the 1989 Great North Western Beer Festival - at the last minute! The Branch Prices Survey visited here on November 2nd 1989. In the 1992 Great North Western Beer Festival programme it was listed as selling Boddingtons Bitter and Websters Yorkshire Bitter. In December 1993 it was reported that the pub had been closed for several months awaiting a new licensee. By Spring 1994 it was boarded up and it was in the Autumn 1994 that it reopened selling Boddingtons Bitter. It was listed in the 1975, 1976 and 1987 Good Beer Guides. On 19/04/84 the Mild was 60p and the Bitter 62p
