Historic Interest
The pub was in the Good Beer Guide from 1991 to 2000. Closed in 2009 and delicensed 27/04/10, the final landlord was Geja Tobias and owner Punch Taverns. It was converted into a Post Office in March 2013. In 1982 it was a Tetley pub selling both Mild and Bitter (H). It was listed in the Good Beer Guide from 1991 to 1999. In March 1976 and again in October 1978 it was included on a list of Tetley pubs that sold Walkers Bitter and not Tetleys. The Pub was listed in John Stotts 1977 Guide to Good Beer in Bolton as the Clifton selling Walker Bitter, Tetley Mild (H), with a TV and Juke Box and noted as sadly neglected by Tetley. In April 1980 it was included on a suggested Pub Crawl of Bolton town centre. In January 1981 the pub was to be Walkerised, but in the May 1981 Bolton Insert and those in February 1983 and June 1985 it is listed as selling Tetley Mild and Bitter. It featured in Town Centre articles, pub crawls and Branch Meetings on a regular basis. In August 1985 it started selling Jennings Bitter which proved to be quite popular, it was also regarded as the best bet for Tetleys in the town centre in May 1986. A couple of Quiz nights were held and the Jennings Bitter was reported as having gone in October 1986. Shortly after the pub was refurbished and Jennings Bitter made a return on the new bar. In Spring 1987 the pub was included on the Town Centre Pub Crawl in the Great North Western Beer festival. The new licensing laws came in on August 22nd 1988 and the pub started opening from 11am to 11pm Monday to Saturday. In late 1990 the pub started selling Moorhouse's Beers as guests. In August 1991 a mini Beer Festival was held selling Timothy Taylors Landlord, Everards Tiger, Moorhouse's Pendle Witch and Jennings Sneck Lifter in addition to the normal range. In the 1992 Great North Western Beer Festival programme it was listed as selling Tetley Bitter, Moorhouses Premier, Jennings Bitter and Walker Best Bitter and on the Back page advert it was holding its own minifestival with recently introduced Jennings Cumberland ale, Everard Tiger, Bateman XXXB and Moorhouse's Pete's revenge. Later in October 1992 another mini beer festival was held selling Hook Norton Old Hooky, Old Mill Bullion, Oak Bitter, ABC Bitter and Timothy Taylors Landlord. BY Autumn 1993 the range of beers were Walker Mild, Bitter, Best Bitter, Imperial, Jennings Bitter, Moorhouse's Premier. In early 1994 Draught Bass was a guest. In May 1995 it was reported that three Jennings beers were available Bitter, Cockerhoop and Snecklifter. Another mini Beer Festival was held in November 1995. On November 15th 2000 at the Branch AGM the beers were Tetley Bitter, Jennings Bitter and Lees Bitter.
