Closed in January 2022 however, following a campaign by the Parish Council the pub was refurbished and re-opened in July 2022. Cask ale sadly removed. The pub has a comfortable atmosphere. Features include a main bar area and separate games room for pool, darts and a fruit machine. There is lots of seating outside the front of the pub and rear parking at the back.

The Charter Market Quarter has many historical links. One of the only free-standing medieval civic clock towers, the site of the First Battle of St. Albans in 1455, during the Wars of the Roses. Allegedly the Boot Inn played host to soldiers fighting in the battle. There used to be 23 pubs around the Market area!
