The White Hart claims to be the oldest pub of that name the country; the original building dated from 1350 and was named in honour of Joan, Lady of the Manor of Downe who took the white hart as her symbol on her coat of arms. She married Edward, the Black Prince and was mother of Richard II; don't expect any nobility here though.
