The Wheatsheaf is a neat white painted brick house adorned with flowers. Inside, a single bar serves several linked areas including a dining area; mostly finished in bare brick and wood, giving a restful, homely feeling. The unmatched furniture adds to the relaxed feel of the place. One local beer from Flack Manor is always on sale, as is good quality wine. The Newport Session Players, who used to play at the sadly closed Newport Inn nearby now play here on Thursdays. Outside at the rear is a large patio and garden with good views southward towards Ampfield Wood. A footpath to Ampfield Wood starts from a corner of the car park: it can also be used to reach Hillier's Arboretum.
