Styling itself as the Westgate Pub & Rooms and, having undergone an extensive refurbishment in spring 2016, now with 10 en-suite bedrooms and extended bar areas.
Founded in 1877, the Grade II listed Westgate is easily found at the top of the High Street just above the city's Westgate and near the Great Hall. At some time in the past the pub was fitted out with splendid 'Westgate Hotel' etched windows and many of these remain.
The L-shaped bar is bare-boarded throughout with additional loose carpets. To the left is a raised dining area, which is also the breakfast area for hotel guests & morning visitors, and going through this leads to a modest sheltered courtyard. The pub is decorated in muted greys with some rough hewn pine and bare brick and an eclectic range of pictures including Victorian caricatures.
Up to 5 beers are available, drawn from local breweries.
Card only, no cash taken.
