Reputed to be Kenilworth’s oldest pub with an interesting name based on the amalgamation of two former names - Two Virgins Inn and Castle Tavern.
A quality purveyor of Everards beers in a picturesque Old Town High Street location near Abbey Fields and Kenilworth Castle. This multi–roomed, split-level pub with outside courtyard gets busy with diners enjoying the popular traditional pub food and Sunday lunch. Historic Interest
First used as a pub in 1563 when it was called the The Two Virgins. By 1777 it was named the Sign of The Two Virgins. In 1831, under a change of ownership, it was renamed The Castle Tavern. In 1852, upon its auction and sale, the name appears in the title reads as Castle Tavern and Two Virgins. The amalgamation of two historic names gave rise to the pub's interesting name, which was later shortened to its form, The Virgins and Castle.
