This Pub is Closed Long Term

Cafe bar (from March 2014) opposite St Thomas Church in the centre of Newport. Opened in November 2013 in premises that have been a saddlers and bakery with hand crafted seating and intimate lounge on the first floor which is available for private hire. Valentine Gray was an apprentice chimney sweep who died in tragic circumstances at the age of 10 in 1822. He is immortalized by a monument erected to him not a 100 yards from the pub. It was his death that prompted the Climbing Boys Act and resulted in his employer and his wife being imprisoned for manslaughter. (new website and e-mail address under construction). No real ale, and the reception of the CAMRA surveyor at the time of the last survey was dismissive.
