Nestling on the edge of Dartmoor this 16th Century pub is named after a local folklore figure and should be on everybody's bucket list. The bar walls are decorated with CAMRA certificates and other accolades that have been won over the years. It is the only pub in the UK to win both National POTY (2006) and CPOTY (2023) a truly unique achievement. There is an open fire lit in the winter months and the bar has a unique thatched roof. At the rear there is a separate restaurant and access to the garden. Eight handpumps offer four ales in winter, mainly from the west country and there will always be a dark beer available. If they run out of handpumps in summer, additional beers are served directly from the cellar. Fifteen or more real west country ciders are sold along with a selection of clearly identified non-real ciders / fruit ciders from around the country. Unsurprisingly it has been branch Cider Pub of the Year five times and was NATIONAL Cider Pub of the Year in 2023. The owner is an ex-butcher, his wife a cook, the food is excellent and if you really want to make the most of the place there are six beautifully finished en-suite guest rooms.
This Pub serves 5 changing beers (always one dark beer available) and 2 regular beers.
