Superb thatched building dating back to the 15th century and was originally the village Guild Hall. The interior is now partly opened up. The front entrance leads to the bar area with stone floor and inglenook fireplace. There are dining areas to both sides, that on the left (behind a screen of the old wall beams) being traditional in style while the one on the right has a more contemporary feel (plus lots of framed photos of the village in times of old). Recently added behind the pub and popular all year round is a fully enclosed, heated, "Hunters' Lodge". Its windowed panels open onto the beer garden which also contains children's play equipment. Locally sourced food has a good reputation for quality and price with a 10% discount for Armed Forces, RSPB and CAMRA members.
In 2019 the pub was purchased from Greene King by a village resident who renovated it and persuaded a popular former licensee couple to return. Dog friendly every day but Sunday when the pub gets very busy.
