The Terminus was located just outside the town centre, not far from the river and close to the former Russell's brewery. Opened in 1899 as an hotel, it was part of Russell's tied estate, passing to Truman's on takeover in 1930. The name probably derived from its proximity to Gravesend West Street railway station, which was the last stop on the short branch line from Fawkham Junction. The station, and the rest of the line, was closed to passengers in 1953.

The Terminus continued trading until 1983, when it was sacrificed to make way for a riverside housing development. The last three licensees were Derek Winch (1969-77), later mine host at the nearby British Tar (now TJ's), Mark Gillingham, and finally Ken Carter.
