As its name implies The Swan is quite literally part of the village green. The outside tables and benches perfectly complement the location and customers drift onto the green. The interior is fresh and inviting with a wooden floor, matching stripped pine tables and an open double-sided fire. The real ales and the food have a fine reputation. The nearest bus stop (7,77) is an easy one-mile walk down the lane from Mereworth School.
Active Campaign
A Community Benefit Society, The Swan Community Project Limited, has been registered, and this group is campaigning to purchase the pub, and they are applying for government grants. Their Community Share Offer had by Nov 2024 raised over £510,000, sufficient to cover the purchase of the freehold, and they plan to complete the purchase in January 2025. In Dec 2024 they were awarded a Community Ownership Scheme grant of £300K.
