Unique tiled frontage depicting White Swan and Marston's Poole Ales
Historic address seems to be 5 Lagland Street though it is now in Old Orchard. Postcode was BH15 1SE but that is now defunct (still recorded on Land Registry)
A planning application was made in 2006 to demolish this and the surrounding buildings and build flats & retail units but this was rejected as it would '...by reason of its size, scale and bulk constitute over-development of the site in a manner that would be harmful to the character of the area... [and] ...fail to preserve or enhance the character of The Quay Conservation Area'.
Subsequent change of use permission was granted and images show it as a museum/visitor centre and after that it had permission to become a restaurant, but it's not clear if this ever happened. June 2019 images show it boarded up again.
Update 2024: Has reopened once again as the Swan Inn. We have a new WhatPub entry for it - Swan Inn SED/488. Please see that entry for current details,
Historic Interest
Once called J J Murphy' s before it was called the Swan Inn. A lovely tiled frontage including picture tiling with a pair of swans and incorporating the pub's name. Part of The Quay Conservation Area.
