This country local pub has a large bar at the front with pool table and lots of bar stools. Out back is an impressive tapas bar with more bar stools and tables with a secluded area at the far end and another room off from its entrance. Upstairs is a cocktail lounge (beer allowed) and there is seating outside.
The pub is a minute's walk from Gunton station so is perfect for a trip out from the city. Four ales were available at laucnh, from local breweries Woodforde's, Grain and Lacon's.
This pub was saved from conversion to housing in 2015, when it was purchased by Ivor Braka, owner of the Gunton Arms, to be refurbished and re-opened in 2017. The extensive refitting work, followed by the COVID crisis, pushed this back to June 2021 when the pub finally reopened!
Historic Interest
In March 2013 permission was given to convert to dwelling and holiday cottage but this never happened. The pub was untouched. In June 2016 the new owner (not the person who requested change of use) put in plans to re-open it. In that document it says "Inspection of the NNDC online planning database shows that the site has several planning applications associated with it – most recently permission (PF/12/1416), to convert the disused public house to residential accommodation (the application involved no change to the established holiday lets). It should be noted that, as this work was never implemented, discussions with the LPA have confirmed that the pub remains under its A3/A4 planning classification"
Restoration
This country pub was saved from conversion to housing in 2015, when it was purchased and refurbished. The extensive refit has created a large bar at the front that is a delight and has a traditional, rustic feel. There is a tapas bar at the back with another area at the far end and a further room. Upstairs is a cocktail lounge and there is seating outside. The walls are adorned with art, some of it imaginative and provoking, which, whilst not to everyone's tastes, is at least interesting and impactful. The pub serves meals and real ales.
