Situated on the eastern edge of Watlington with a distinct continental cafe-bar feel, particularly during the day, and very cyclist friendly. The pub was extensively renovated prior to reopening on 4 July 2020 with the new licensees (who had previously been tenants at the nearby Fat Fox) and further refurbishment in late 2023 to open up the top floor has doubled the inside seating.
Coffee, home-made cakes and savoury snacks are available all day. Pizzas are cooked in the wood-fired oven in the garden in the summer and inside in the winter. One or two daily light meal options also often available.
The changing beers are usually from local breweries such as Oxford, XT, Amwell Springs, Loddon and Loose Cannon. Alcohol is served from 11am.
The pub is also popular with walkers as the Ridgeway crosses Hill Road about 650m south-east of the pub. From the garden there is a good view of the chalk triangle, called 'White Mark', on Watlington Hill originally cut to look like a spire on the parish church.
