Smiffy's, Dartford (Scruffy's (inf); Ricky's Bar)

Smiffy's was a short-lived (c1980-92) venture that described itself as a wine bar and aimed to attract the yuppie element amongst Dartford drinkers, if there ever was one. It was one of many such ventures that sprang up in the South East during the early years of the Thatcher government. Housed above a former fish and chip shop (see photo), it offered a good selection of real ales and as such was a welcome addition to the range of Dartford's watering holes, even if the quality sometimes left much to be desired. It was renamed 'Ricky's Bar' in its later days.

The site is now occupied by the dubiously named 'Cloisters' - a large residential/office complex.
