Historic Interest
The Sherwood has an entry on Nottingham's Local Heritage List as Heritage Asset HA305.
In 1871, the Sherwood Inn was a fully licensed establishment under Samuel Wilkinson (Wright). Formerly an Home Ales house, the inn was a post house on the edge of Sherwood Forest with stabling for horses. A ground floor extension was added in 1898 (Whitworth 2010). Previously, the Sherwood Inn has an entry on Nottingham Civic Society's Draft Local Heritage List (09 December 2013) which notes that "Single storey front extension in green faience by WB Starr & Hall for Bass Brewery, 1923. Olive green tiles now largely overpainted. Original C19 building behind has pub name in decorative tiled panel." This appears to be at odds with Whitworth and further research is needed to clarify the dates. As at November 2017, the freehold for the Sherwood Inn [NT402599] was held by Unique Pub Properties Limited [Reg. No. 3726292], a subsidiary of Ei Group plc.
