45 Loscoe Road, Carrington, Nottingham, NG5 2AW (View on Google Map)

This friendly back street local sits in the middle of a Victorian terrace, just north of Nottingham. Memorabilia decorates the walls in the bar, alongside traditional bar games. The opposing lounge features old brass work, ornaments, pictures, and a large collection of books - with drinkers encouraged to browse. Outside, the secluded garden offers a haven in summer, winning many 'Nottingham in Bloom' awards. The upstairs function room has hosted the Carrington Folk Club for over 25 years, meeting each Wednesday. As well as three regular cask beers, three constantly changing cask beers range from pale ales, golden, IPAs, bitters, porters and stouts. Collecter card available, ask for details.

Historic Interest

Named for William Ewart Gladstone (1809 - 1898), a Liberal politician, one time Newark MP and four times Prime Minister. Known as "The People's William" for his reformist policies and so a popular political choice of pub name. Formerly a Nottingham Brewery and then Whitbread house.

Built in 1882, one famous former publican was George Fryer, an Amateur English Heavyweight Boxing Champion, once billed in the USA in a rather unsavoury manner as "The Nottingham Slasher"!(www.ournottinghamshire.org.uk).

In 1894 the Gladstone Hotel was a fully licensed establishment under publican J. King Coxon.

Registered as an Asset of Community Value on the 10th March 2016 and nominated by the Nottingham Branch of CAMRA.

As at November 2017, the Gladstone Hotel freehold (NT332381) was held by Punch Partnerships (PTL) Limited [Reg. No. 3512363] and was transferred to Star (Heineken) on the 5th March 2018.
