Historic Interest

In September 1978 it was surprisingly one of two Whitbread pubs in Bolton to be supplied from Whitbreads Liverpool brewery with their Special Cask Bitter, however by November it was being brewed in Salford and supplied to the pub from Salmesbury and by December it was called just Special Cask. It didn't last long anyway. and by May 1981 it was the Railway Hotel and was a Whitbread Keg Pub. However by June 1983 it had been refurbished and had Duttons Bitter and Castle Eden Ale available, but again these did not last long either. The pub was not listed in the 1989 Beer in Bolton Guide as it was keg only. In January 1991 Boddingtons Bitter was on the bar, but by July 1991 the pub had closed awaiting a new landlord who arrived in August. By December 1992 the pub had been sold to Matthew Brown and they replaced the Boddingtons Bitter with Theakstons Best Bitter. The pub was visited on a Daubhill pub crawl on February 17th 1994. At some point in the early 90's it had been renamed the Shamrock. By January 1996 the pub had closed.
