The former historic Royal Oak pub in Ham closed in 2011 and has been purchased this year for use of the local community from proceeds of the sale of the Ham Institute in New Road. The former pub will become The Ham Village Centre.
History of the former pub: Originally an abattoir for Manor Farm (also known as Hatch's Farm, Secrett's Farm & Secrett's Dairy), this building then became an inn in the 1700s. The farm building were demolished in 1958, and were replaced by a block of shops and flats.
February 2019 update: "Residents dismayed as popular community hub is closed and put up for sale. It has been listed at £1.1M with 'opportunity to redevelop."
