This Pub is Permanently Closed

The Royal Oak, an Elizabeth building of 1570 was constructed adjacent to the unusual St Augustine’s church as a dwelling for the parish clerk and sexton. It remained as such until the 18th century when Jacob Ferriss was granted a licence “that he may suffer ale to be tippled in his house, but he may not suffer ale to be tippled during divine service.”

A lovely Grade II listed village inn offering cooked food and 4 star accommodation. The main bar has a wood burning stove with a fine inglenook and the garden offers quaint views of the ancient church and graveyard next door.

Recently sympathetically renovated and re-furnished the pub has retained its local and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant provides good wholesome locally sourced food in a separate room adjacent to the bar area.
