and bijou hotel
Smart cocktail bar for the over 25s which has reverted to its original name. Whilst the focus is on cocktails there may be a good selection of local real ales from the likes of Firebird and Crafty Brewing at premium prices. The bar is an interesting concept and worth trying out. Food is primarily tapas and pizza with a bottomless brunch on Saturday.
Prior to being a pub the Rose & Crown has been a butcher's, baker's and the ticket office for Godalming Station.
Historic Interest
The Rose and Crown is reputed to be one of the oldest and smallest pubs in Godalming. The original building dates from Tudor times and was originally called Hall House. Over the centuries later additions include a Baker's and Butcher's. The Pub has been extended over the centuries to incorporate both the Baker's shop and Butchers, although delightful original features of both still exist. The original Baker's shop window still exists; this is a unique canted bay window to the right of the main Pub entrance in Mill Lane. There are two original brick built Bakers ovens c.1700 in the cellar and these are of great historical interest and totally unique to the area. The Butcher's shop no longer exists except for the original iron work for hanging and moving the meat carcasses and these can still be clearly seen to the rear of the pub. (source: pub website) At one time the pub was also the ticket office for the nearby Godalming Station.
This Pub serves no changing beers and 1 regular beer.
