The Rose & Crown was comfortably refurbished during 2012 with a series of separate seating areas. The main emphasis is on food but musical events are held here, mainly jazz evenings. The present Rose & Crown was built by Ind Coope and finished just prior to the outbreak of World War II.The previous building was small and timber framed thought to have originated from the 16th Century and known as The Rose. The name was changed to The Rose & Crown in the early 1840's probably as a tribute to the Duke of Lancaster since East Grinstead was once part of the Duchy of Lancaster. This connection is illustrated in some stained glass windows, one of which displays the Red Rose of Lancaster. Converted to a hairdressing saloon in 2014.
