This Pub is Permanently Closed
Grade II listed pub that famously straddled the Hampshire/Wiltshire border.
The main bar was in Hampshire but the dining room was in Wiltshire. At one time the different licensing authorities had different closing times so at 10.30pm the customers would move from East to West for another half hour of drinking.
The pub last changed hands November 1995 but the new owner made no real attempt to run it. The subsequent planning application for change of use resulted in Salisbury District approving it but Test Valley, having a local plan policy to retain village amenities, refusing it. However, in the longer term this didn't save the pub.
Historic Interest
Late 17th century Grade II listed. Historic England list entry 1296304.
