The Hatchet is easily found on the A27: it's the last pub before leaving Hampshire. On the right is a comfortable square public bar, on the left a long dining room, with an annexe beyond. Outside is a smallish terraced garden plus an adventurous children's play area. The pub is family-run with a team of welcoming and efficient staff.
Dining here is very popular: there is a very extensive menu, much of it home-made; and the good quality portions are generous. There is a large hand-written menu on the end wall of the dining room. The same chef has been cooking here since 1990.
New management from 1st July 2024. As of mid October 2024 the kitchen is closed for refurbishment.
