Historic Interest
The pub was Listed in John Stotts A Guide to Good Beer in Bolton as selling Greenall Whitley Bitter and both light and dark Mild (E), with TV, Juke Box, darts, dominoes and snacks. However in an article about Farnwoth & Kearsley pubs in January 1979 it was deemed to be keg. The pub was included in the 1980 Greater Manchester selective Beer guide and was included in the May 1981 Bolton pub insert as a Greenall Whitley pub selling Mild and Bitter (E). It was included Bolton Pub Insert in February 1983 and again on the Farnworth Pub list in May 1983. It was listed on the June 1985 Bolton Pub Insert. Included in a Farnworth and Kearsley Article as selling Greenall Whitley Mild (69p), Bitter (72p) E, and on a 1922 Pubs List. It was listed in the 1989 Beer in Bolton Guide as selling Greenall Whitley Bitter on their electrically operated handpumps. In April 1996 it was noted that the pub had been bought by Joseph Holt, they monitored the pub to determine if it should be tenanted or managed, it then underwent a much needed refurbishment and became a managed houses selling Mild and Bitter (H). In November 1999 it was apparent that some of the Bitter supplied to the pub was lighter than usual. The pub was included in the Good Beer Guide in both 2001 and 2002. The pub continued selling Holts Mild and Bitter (H) until around 2010 when the mild was no longer available. The pub was in decline and was put up for sale in May 2023 like so many others, after being closed for a while and very unusually for a Holts pub the cask Bitter had gone, but there were two classic motorbikes to see in the bar area in November 2023. The pub finally closed in April 2024.
