Originally called the Star Hotel, this is very unusual establishment. Primarilly a live music venue, the two roomed interior is packed with all sorts of paraphernalia and unusual furniture. In the right hand room are two remarkable stuffed tigers and a motorbike! At the rear is a courtyard.
Normally only open on Friday & Saturday nights (sometimes until later than 1am), music, usually rock, plays from 8 - 11pm. Admission is generally free with donations requested to pay for the bands. A labour of love, some of the staff are volunteers who do it to keep the music live. It occasionally opens at other times, sometimes on Sundays and bank holidays and is open all day for Whitchurch's Blackberry festival (usually on the first Saturday in October) when the whole town comes alive with a carnival atmosphere.
The sole handpump serves Suicider, a cider which weighs in at 8.3% and is apparently unique to the pub, its provenance is unknown.
All Whitchurch buses stop in Tesco's car park nearby, but they stop running before the pub is open.
They do not have a website, but all details of what bands a playing and when they are open outside of their usual hours are posted on thei Facebook page.
