This Pub is Permanently Closed

The Palace Tavern appeared in each of the Good Beer Guide’s editions of 1987, 1988 and 1989. The 1988 entry reads:

“Wethered Bitter (H)

Hard to find back street local with a nautical theme.”

The photo of the pub’s sign is dated 2010, and has been taken, with kind permission, from the pub’s Dover-Kent Archives web entry, having been supplied by Roger Pester.

Seen in the second photo, taken on 27 August 2015, is the block of flats, Napier Court, which replaced the Palace Tavern.

No photos of the pub have been found so far, but Google Street View images dated 2012 show the demolition site, with the pub sign still standing.
