Historic Interest
In May 1981 it was a Whitbread Keg pub called the Painters Arms. In August 1984 it had been renamed Scandals a Disco pub. In the Spring of 1988 it was surprising to find that the pub was on the monthly guest beer list despite not normally selling any cask beer. By August 1992 the pub had been renamed Mr D's and was being offered for sale leasehold £29,000 or Freehold £89,000, by December 1992 the For Sale sign had gone. In January 1995 the pub had been painted Bright Yellow and was now called the Academy Bar to attract the local Student population and you needed a Student Union card to get in. Closed as The Academy pub in late 1999 and was soon up for sale. In September 2005 a notice appeared on the door to say that it was going to reopen as a Gay Lap Dancing club, however by January 2006 it had opened as the Achari restaurant.
