Historic Interest
There was a pub on this site dating back to the 1630s. It appears the pub had its own brewery. It was rebuilt in the early 1800s, possibly then known as the Vaults, listed as the Vaults in Bagshaw's Directory of 1850 and by 1872 known as the Letters. Mentioned in Sulley’s 1889 ‘The Hundred of Wirral’ as one of the 11 fully licensed pubs in Neston. The pub had two bars, a smoke room, a drawing room and a parlour and a bowling green, The pub was acquired by Allsopps brewery and there were some alterations about 1900 and a change of name to the Neston Hotel in 1901. Closed in 1935 but not demolished until after 1955. Residential property now on the site.
