A Grade II listed building dating from 1710, built out of the local ‘Hornton’ ironstone. Iron was quarried out of what now is the Burton Dassett Country Park area as recently as during the WW1.
In 2010 the future looked gloomy with the pub closing, however after a concerted campaign the pub was saved. After extensive refurbishment in 2011 The Merrie Lion reopened in July 2012.
