This Pub is Closed Long Term
In April 2025 the entrance was blocked off to prevent use by parents picking up their children from Bolton School and also the more dodgy members of society doing criminal deals! An impressive detached pub in a part of town historically short on licensed premises. The pub is named in honour of Bolton Wanderers legendary striker Nat Lofthouse who earned the nickname Lion of Vienna for his diehard performance for England in a game in Austria in 1952. Inside, the large central bar splits the pub in two. The room at the front has real fires and plenty of quiet corners whilst the back room has a livelier atmosphere with two pool tables and a dart board. In summer it can be pleasant to sit outside on the picnic benches and take in the view of the red-bricked magnificence of the famous Bolton School across the road. The bar has the typical Sam Smiths range of drinks at more than reasonable prices and there is food available throughout the day.
