Free House
A 16th century former coaching house with open fires, low ceilings and comfy sofas; this free house is in the village center and offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Ales and ciders are generally sourced from the Southwest, with Sandford Orchards ciderworks being literally "down the road" in Crediton. It is well-supported by locals and visitors alike and is a licensed wedding venue (so is occasionally closed Saturday lunchtimes and afternoons). The large outdoor tiered garden being especially popular in the summer. The menu is short and reviewed daily; the emphasis being on fresh produce, flavour and where possible local or homegrown produce. There is a separate dining room and seven Bed and Breakfast rooms. Skittles are played frequently, in the alley-cum-cinema-cum-conference venue. There are open mic music and comedy evenings. Children and dogs are welcome in this superb community pub.
