This Pub is Permanently Closed
The Kent and Essex was a large establishment on the outskirts of Gravesend. Opening in 1898 as an hotel, it formed part of the tied estate of Gravesend brewers Russell's, later part of Truman's. It had its own bowling green until the 1960s.
Sadly the pub closed in 2007 and was acquired by property developers. It went on fire soon afterwards, as per local tradition. What had been a fine building was almost completely destroyed and the site is now occupied by ugly residential units.
