Historic Interest
The Ship dated back to at least 1804 and changed name to the Horse & Groom and then the Horse & Jockey by 1825 (although still shown on a map of 1830 as the Horse & Groom). Shown at this location on a Tithe map of 1839. The pub was demolished around 1840 (the site is now shops) and a new pub of the same name was built across the road on the corner of Rake Lane opposite the Eagle & Crown.
