Historic Interest
The Eagle & Crown opened around 1840 on the site of an old smaller pub of the same name on Rake Lane. Listed in Bagshaw's Directory of 1850. An Argyle Brewery pub transferred to Birkenhead Brewery. Significant alterations were made to the building in 1926/27 when it was virtually rebuilt with the addition of an extra storey, the front becoming half timbered and the removal of the front porch. The pub stayed open throughout the building work. Described in 1980 as invariably busy with two lounges, a public bar and an upstairs function room with Whitbread Special Cask Bitter at that time.
