Imposing Georgian building used for various purposes in the past: a private girls' school, a residence and, during WWII, the HQ of the American Eighth Air Force and later the RAF Air Training Corps. After 1981 it was been a private hotel and used to boast gourmet food (Mon-Sat) and a selection of guest ales, usually from local breweries. The decor is subdued, bearing photographs of its military past. It was then converted from a pub into a hotel (B&B) and was finally closed in march 2007 to be converted into a set of flats.
