hotel with bar open to non-residents (Tavern Bar)
A Grade II*-listed old coaching inn dating from the 16th century, which is easily accessed from the town centre. This is currently a Peel Group hotel providing accommodation; it also hosts various functions and is licensed for civil wedding ceremonies. The hotel possesses a single bar, The Tavern Bar, which enjoys several separate areas, in addition to a spacious hotel courtyard which is ideal for outside eating and drinking.
In March 2023 the three beers are on rotation on two handpumps, e.g. either the two Amwell Springs beers or one Amwell Springs beer plus Doom Bar.
Food may be either bar snacks or dining from an à la carte menu in George's Bistro across the passageway from the Tavern Bar.
There is car park, but it is for hotel guests only.
