Historic Interest

In December 1975 and again in December 1979 the pub was included on a list from Bass showing that it sold 4X Best Mild and Brew 10. The pub was listed in John Stotts 1977 Guide to Good Beer in Bolton as selling Bass Charrington Brew Ten Bitter and Best Mild (E), with Juke Box and snacks. The pub was included in the Good Beer Guide for 1979 and 1980. The pub was included on a suggested Bolton Pub Crawl in April 1980. It was listed in the 1980 selective Greater Manchester Guide. However by September 1980 the Brew 10 was being served through a Stones Bitter dispenser as it was now keg. In May 1981 it was selling only Bass 4X Mild. The pub was put up for sale in July 1982 and it was soon bought and in August 1982 it was expected to reopen as a Free House selling guest Beers. By December 1982 Boddingtons Bitter was on the bar and Timothy Taylors Dark Mild had been available but had then reverted to the previous Bass 4X Mild, the Branch Christmas Social was held here on December 22nd. On 09/10/82 Taylors Dark Mild was 51p, Boddingtons Bitter 52p and Taylors Landlord 56p. In February 1985 it was noted that the pub was owned by Columbia Leisure who also owned Tisbury Brewery. The pub closed around April 1985 and it was reported that it was to reopen in May 1986. In January 1987 the beers were Boddingtons Bitter, 4x Mild and Stones Bitter. It was listed in the 1989 Beer in Bolton Guideas selling Boddingtons Bitter and Stones Bitter (H). By April 1992 in the Great North Western Beer festival programme it was listed as selling Wilsons Original Bitter. The pub closed not long after this and was noted as boarded up in July 1996.
